Heinz Bernstein

Bernstein is matter-of-fact about information that radically changes Kikuchi's understanding of Gantz. He discusses the black spheres as manufactured technology rather than treating them with the mystery surrounding them in Japan.

He is also deeply embedded in the powerful network that has formed around the technology. His explanation presents Gantz not merely as a secret alien-hunting system but as something observed and exploited by wealthy and influential people.

Bernstein's confidence is limited by the fact that he does not fully understand the ultimate source of the information his company received.

Bernstein has no established supernatural abilities. His power comes from his corporate position and access to the information required to manufacture Gantz technology.

Maier Bacher produces the black spheres using calculations communicated through Bernstein's daughter. Those instructions allow humans to construct devices capable of teleportation, reconstruction of human bodies, advanced weapon deployment and other technologies far beyond conventional science.

Bernstein also has access to the international network surrounding the hunts and knows that information from Gantz missions is being distributed beyond the hunters themselves.

Bernstein appears during Kikuchi's investigation into the origin of Gantz. Sebastian takes the journalist to Bernstein after first showing him the German manufacturing operation.

Bernstein explains that his daughter, whose brain had been severely damaged, unexpectedly began reciting strings of numbers. Those numbers were eventually deciphered as information that could be used to build the black spheres.

He also tells Kikuchi that footage of the hunts is distributed to wealthy private audiences around the world, where the missions are treated as entertainment and used for gambling. He claims that powerful politicians, celebrities and royalty are connected to the operation.

Later revelations establish that the technological information did not originate with Bernstein's daughter herself; she functioned as a receiver for knowledge transmitted to humanity from an extraterrestrial source.

Seiichi Kikuchi interviews Bernstein while investigating the origin and manufacture of Gantz technology. Bernstein gives Seiichi Kikuchi information that substantially changes his understanding of the organization.

Sebastian brings Kikuchi to Bernstein and later challenges parts of Bernstein's explanation concerning the ultimate source of the technological information.

Bernstein's daughter is responsible for receiving and communicating the numerical information that enables Maier Bacher to construct the black spheres.
