Hagane

Hagane receives little individual characterization in established material. His appearances focus primarily on his participation in village combat rather than his private life, ambitions, or opinions.

He does not display the political aggression of Magma or the strict discipline associated with Kinro, and canon does not provide enough dialogue to assign him a more elaborate personality without speculation.

Hagane is capable of fighting with an axe. During an earlier Grand Bout, he uses a cloth-wrapped axe while competing against Magma.

Reaching a late tournament match indicates that he is at least a competent fighter by Ishigami Village standards, although his exact standing relative to most named combatants is not quantified.

His strength is insufficient to stop Magma's full-force attack, which establishes the gap between a capable ordinary contestant and the village's dominant physical powerhouse.

Hagane's principal role is shown through a flashback to a Grand Bout held before Senku's arrival.

He advances far enough to face Magma in a decisive match. Hagane attempts to stop the larger fighter's powerful swing but is unable to withstand it and loses.

The sequence helps establish how dominant Magma has been in Ishigami Village's tournament system before the Kingdom of Science becomes involved.

Hagane otherwise remains one of the village's background residents and does not receive an independent storyline.

Ruri's position as priestess provides part of the traditional stakes surrounding the village tournament in which Hagane competes.
