Personality
Personality
Fritz is ruthless, authoritarian, and intensely concerned with expanding his own power. He treats conquered people as property, mutilates slaves to prevent them from speaking, and responds to disobedience with deliberately cruel punishments. When Ymir is accused of releasing livestock, he grants her apparent freedom only so that his men can hunt her for sport.
Ymir's transformation does not cause Fritz to reconsider how he treats her. Instead, he immediately sees the immense practical value of her Titan and orders her to cultivate land, build infrastructure, and destroy Eldia's enemies. Even after rewarding her service by taking her as his concubine, he continues addressing her as a slave.
His ambitions extend beyond his own lifetime. Fritz's final commands reveal that he wants Ymir's power preserved indefinitely so that his descendants can continue expanding Eldian rule through the Titans.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Fritz is an ordinary human and possesses no Titan power or supernatural ability of his own. His strength comes from his position as king, which gives him command over Eldian warriors, slaves, territory, and the resources of his growing state.
He is an effective and brutally expansionist ruler. After obtaining access to Ymir's Titan power, Fritz directs her abilities toward warfare and infrastructure, ordering her to cultivate wasteland, construct roads and bridges, and destroy opposing armies. This combination of military leadership and Ymir's overwhelming strength allows Eldia to grow rapidly.
Fritz also establishes the method through which Ymir's Titan power is preserved after her death. By ordering his daughters to consume their mother's remains and commanding subsequent generations to continue passing down her power, he lays the foundation for the hereditary Titan system that shapes Eldian history for the next two thousand years.
Story Role
Story Role
Fritz appears in the account of Ymir's life approximately two millennia before the main narrative. His Eldian forces raid Ymir's village, enslave its surviving inhabitants, and incorporate them into his tribe. After Ymir is blamed for releasing pigs, Fritz orders her hunted, inadvertently setting in motion the events through which she acquires the first Titan power.
Once Ymir returns with her new abilities, Fritz uses her as the decisive weapon of his expanding kingdom. She destroys the forces of Marley and performs enormous works for Eldia, while Fritz makes her his concubine and fathers three daughters with her: Maria Fritz, Rose Fritz, and Sina Fritz.
When Ymir dies protecting Fritz from an assassination attempt, he shows no grief and orders Maria, Rose, and Sina to consume their mother's body so that her power will not disappear. He later commands them to have children and continue passing Ymir's power from generation to generation, ensuring that the Titans remain instruments of Eldian domination.
This command becomes one of the foundations of the Subjects of Ymir and the royal Fritz bloodline. Ymir's continued psychological attachment to Fritz also remains consequential long after his death, with her inability to free herself from that bond influencing the survival of Titan power for roughly two thousand years.
Relationships
Relationships
Ymir Fritz begins as one of Fritz's slaves after his forces conquer her village. After she gains Titan power, Fritz exploits her abilities to expand Eldia and takes her as his concubine. Even after Ymir sacrifices herself protecting him, Fritz continues treating her as a possession and orders their daughters to consume her remains. Her attachment to him subsequently persists within the Paths for approximately two thousand years.
Maria Fritz, Rose Fritz, and Sina Fritz are Fritz's daughters with Ymir. After their mother's death, Fritz forces all three to eat Ymir's remains and later commands them to continue reproducing so her power will be inherited by their descendants.
Karl Fritz is a distant descendant of Fritz and eventually becomes the 145th King of Eldia. Karl's rejection of the Eldian Empire's history of conquest stands in sharp opposition to the expansionist legacy established by his ancestor.
