Farman Cregos

Farman is authoritarian, corrupt and conscious of social influence. Rather than treating students equally, he protects Lloyd Cavill because of Lloyd's family connections and is willing to threaten another student's education to preserve that arrangement.

He expects his position as vice principal to make his orders decisive. This assumption leaves him poorly prepared for Mash, who has little instinctive respect for status when an authority figure behaves unjustly.

Farman's characterization is concentrated heavily in this early incident, and the series does not give him the sustained administrative role that Wahlberg Baigan receives as headmaster.

Farman is a magic user and senior member of Easton's faculty, but the series does not establish a named personal magic or detailed combat repertoire for him.

His most important form of power in the story is institutional. As vice principal, Farman can threaten disciplinary action and expulsion, which makes his willingness to protect Lloyd particularly dangerous to ordinary students.

That authority proves ineffective against Mash's refusal to accept punishment for defending an abused friend.

Farman is first mentioned when Finn Ames explains why Lloyd is so feared at Easton. Lloyd's relationship with the vice principal, combined with his father's Bureau of Magic influence, creates the impression that anyone who opposes him can simply be expelled.

After Mash retaliates against Lloyd for his treatment of Finn, Farman arrives and threatens Mash with expulsion. He expects the prospect of losing his place at Easton to force Mash into submission.

Mash instead treats Farman's abuse of authority as another problem to be solved directly. The incident reinforces an early pattern in which the institutions of the Magic Realm assume that rank and magical status guarantee obedience, only for Mash to ignore those assumptions.

Lloyd Cavill receives Farman's protection at Easton because of his influential family. Farman's willingness to intervene on Lloyd's behalf enables the student's bullying.

Mash Burnedead comes into direct conflict with Farman after retaliating against Lloyd Cavill.

Finn Ames is one of Lloyd's victims and explains Farman's connection to Lloyd when warning Mash about the consequences of opposing him.

Wahlberg Baigan is Easton's headmaster and therefore Farman's superior within the academy's administration.
