Very little of Dick's normal personality is shown because most of his important screen time occurs while his actions are being controlled by an outside force. Carly Nagisa recognizes him as a street duelist, indicating that he has some reputation within New Domino City's dueling scene.

While under supernatural influence, he becomes aggressive and ominous, deliberately leading Yusei away before forcing him into a dangerous duel. These traits belong to his possessed state rather than providing reliable evidence of his ordinary behavior.

Afterward, his confusion demonstrates that he had no conscious understanding of what had happened while he was being controlled.

Dick normally possesses his own Duel Monsters Deck, but the strategy shown during his battle with Yusei has been altered through Dark Signer influence. The possessed Deck uses WATER monsters and cards that help establish the conditions for Dark Synchro Summoning.

Dark Tuner Catastrogue allows him to Dark Synchro Summon Frozen Fitzgerald. The monster can prevent an opponent from activating Spell or Trap Cards when it attacks and can return from the Graveyard under appropriate conditions.

The supernatural abilities displayed during the confrontation are not Dick's own powers. A spider controlled by Rudger Godwin possesses him, producing a false Dark Signer mark and transforming him into a Shadow Drone.

Dick appears after Yusei notices a mysterious mark glowing on his arm and follows him in hopes of learning more about the Dark Signers. Their confrontation becomes Yusei's first duel against a Dark Synchro user.

Carly secretly observes the battle while investigating the supernatural phenomena surrounding Yusei. The duel provides both of them with evidence that the threat developing around New Domino City extends beyond conventional dueling.

After Yusei defeats him, the controlling spider leaves Dick's body. He remembers nothing about the Shadow Duel, and the Dark Tuner and Dark Synchro cards disappear from his Deck.

Yusei Fudo duels Dick after following him in search of information about the mysterious marks appearing around New Domino City. Yusei Fudo discovers after winning that his opponent had been controlled rather than acting willingly.

Rudger Godwin is responsible for Dick's involvement in the conflict. A spider sent by Rudger Godwin takes control of him and uses him as a Shadow Drone.

Carly Nagisa recognizes Dick as a street duelist and watches his confrontation with Yusei Fudo while searching for a major story.
