DD is confident, charismatic and accustomed to occupying the highest position in professional dueling. A decade as champion has reinforced his belief that exceptional people are entitled to pursue victory regardless of the cost.

He presents himself as a guardian and mentor to Edo, occupying an important place in the younger duelist's life after the disappearance of his father. That apparent paternal relationship makes Edo trust him deeply.

Behind the public persona, DD is consumed by ambition and the influence of the Light of Destruction. He views morality as secondary to becoming a legendary duelist and rationalizes terrible actions as necessary steps toward greatness.

DD is an elite professional duelist who remains world champion for ten years. His ability is demonstrated by his long dominance of the Pro League and his victory over challengers such as Doctor Collector.

His Deck centers on Destiny HERO - Plasma, a powerful monster capable of negating opposing monster effects and absorbing an opponent's monster to increase its own ATK.

D - Force strengthens Plasma further and protects it from numerous opposing effects. The card and DD himself are influenced by the Light of Destruction, adding a supernatural dimension to the power surrounding his championship reign.

DD initially appears as Edo's guardian and the reigning champion of professional Duel Monsters. His position connects Edo's personal storyline directly to the highest level of professional competition.

A championship duel against Doctor Collector draws attention to DD and the mysterious Ultimate D card. Edo subsequently travels to meet his guardian and learn more about what has happened.

DD reveals that he was responsible for the attack on Edo's father and stole Destiny HERO - Plasma, the Ultimate D card. He became Edo's guardian afterward partly to deflect suspicion from himself.

Edo challenges DD for the championship and ultimately defeats him, reclaiming the card his father created. The confrontation resolves the mystery that had driven Edo's search for years.

Edo Phoenix is DD's legal ward and eventual professional challenger. DD acts as a father figure toward Edo Phoenix, but is eventually exposed as the person responsible for the tragedy surrounding Edo's father.

Edo Phoenix's father created Destiny HERO - Plasma. DD attacks Edo's father and steals the card after becoming obsessed with obtaining its power.

Doctor Collector challenges DD for the professional championship and faces the power of Destiny HERO - Plasma.

Takuma Saiou and DD are separately affected by the same destructive extraterrestrial influence. The Light of Destruction corrupts DD through Destiny HERO - Plasma just as it exerts control over Saiou.
