Personality
Personality
Dai Kaioushin is gentle, cheerful, compassionate, and considerably less severe than the other ancient Supreme Kais. His large physique and warm expression conceal considerable divine power.
He appears willing to protect other deities personally rather than remaining distant from danger, joining the battle against Majin Buu when the creature attacks the Sacred World of the Kais.
Later Dragon Ball Super manga material expands this characterization, presenting him as a determined defender of mortal life who previously confronted threats well beyond the scope of ordinary fighters.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Dai Kaioushin possesses enormous divine power, advanced ki manipulation, healing and magical abilities, and knowledge associated with the highest Supreme Kai office.
Dragon Ball Super expands his ancient history by revealing that he fought the planet-consuming sorcerer Moro alongside the South Supreme Kai. To stop Moro's magic, Dai Kaioushin sacrificed most of his own godly power to seal the sorcerer's magical abilities, allowing the Galactic Patrol to imprison him.
His divine abilities also include specialized sealing techniques and teleportation associated with Supreme Kai-level beings.
Story Role
Story Role
Dai Kaioushin first becomes important through the East Supreme Kai's account of Majin Buu's ancient attack on the Kaioshin Realm.
During that battle, Buu confronts the universe's Supreme Kais one after another. After absorbing the South Supreme Kai, Buu turns on Dai Kaioushin and absorbs him as well. Dai Kaioushin's gentle nature and heavy body profoundly alter Buu, producing the round, comparatively innocent version later controlled by Bibidi.
This explains why the Buu first released on Earth differs so dramatically from the creature's original destructive temperament.
Dragon Ball Super later expands Dai Kaioushin's role through the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc. Memories and aspects of his personality re-emerge through Good Buu during the renewed conflict with Moro, allowing the ancient Kai to temporarily act through Buu's body.
