Personality
Personality
Cobra is stern, intimidating and exceptionally disciplined. His military background shapes his teaching philosophy: students are expected to endure pressure, overcome weakness and prove themselves through direct competition.
He rarely displays warmth and initially presents his Survival Duel program as an intentionally harsh method of improving Duel Academy's students. His authority and physical presence make questioning his methods difficult.
Beneath that controlled exterior is profound grief. The loss of his adopted son Pierce leaves Cobra vulnerable to Yubel's promise that the boy can be restored, driving him to manipulate the academy despite the principles he claims to teach.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Cobra uses a Venom Deck centered on Reptile monsters and Venom Counters. Venom Swamp continually places counters on non-Venom monsters, reducing their ATK and eventually destroying monsters whose strength falls to zero.
Vennominon the King of Poisonous Snakes grows stronger according to the Reptiles in Cobra's Graveyard. Its destruction can enable the summoning of Vennominaga the Deity of Poisonous Snakes, an exceptionally resistant monster capable of producing an alternate victory condition through Hyper-Venom Counters.
Outside dueling, Cobra has extensive military and survival training. His physical strength, tactical thinking and command experience distinguish him from Duel Academy's conventional instructors.
Story Role
Story Role
Cobra arrives at Duel Academy with several international students and introduces the Survival Duel program. Every participating student receives a Bio-Band supposedly intended to measure performance.
Amon Garam becomes suspicious of Cobra's activities, while Austin O'Brien initially follows the professor's instructions as a trusted student from West Academy.
The Bio-Bands are actually draining energy generated by the students' duels. Cobra is collecting that energy for Yubel, who has promised that helping them will allow him to regain the son he lost.
Judai eventually reaches Cobra and defeats his Venom Deck. Yubel then manipulates Cobra's perception with an image of Pierce, leading the professor toward his final downfall.
