Catherine

Catherine is abrasive, outspoken and quick to argue. Her speech is rendered with a pronounced foreign accent, distinguishing her immediately from the humans around her.

Her criminal background initially makes deception and theft natural tools. However, Otose's willingness to accept her after she has already violated that trust has a lasting effect. Catherine eventually becomes fiercely attached to both Otose and Snack Otose.

She is also vain and sensitive about romance and appearance. Several comedic stories exploit her desire to be considered attractive, particularly when she believes she has found a romantic partner.

Catherine is an experienced cat burglar with considerable agility and theft skills. Her former profession required stealth, infiltration and the ability to remove valuables without being immediately detected.

She has enough physical ability to participate in Kabukicho's street conflicts but is not portrayed as one of its elite fighters. Her strengths are more closely associated with criminal experience and opportunism.

During major neighborhood crises, Catherine demonstrates substantial courage. She remains willing to stand beside Otose and the other residents even when facing opponents far stronger than herself.

Catherine first works at Snack Otose while claiming to be supporting her family. She is actually using the job to facilitate theft and steals Otose's money before being arrested.

After serving her sentence, Catherine returns. Rather than permanently rejecting her, Otose hires her again after Catherine promises to abandon stealing. She subsequently becomes a regular resident of the building and an established member of Otose's circle.

Her former criminal life returns when the Cat's Punch thieves appear. Catherine is forced to confront the difference between her old companions and the life she has built in Kabukicho.

During the Four Devas conflict, Catherine's attachment to Otose becomes particularly clear. After Otose is gravely injured, Catherine remains at her bedside and reacts angrily to Gintoki's attempt to send everyone away for their protection.

Otose is Catherine's employer and the person most responsible for giving her a second chance after her criminal betrayal. Catherine becomes deeply loyal to her.

Tama works with Catherine at Snack Otose and becomes another member of the household.

Sakata Gintoki lives above Snack Otose and frequently interacts with Catherine as part of the same extended Kabukicho family.

Kagura and Shimura Shinpachi regularly encounter Catherine through the Yorozuya's connection to Otose.

Kurikan is Catherine's former associate and leader of the Cat's Punch group of thieves.
