Cait Sith

Cait Sith is silent, gentle and enigmatic around Akari. He communicates more through gestures, appearances and the situations surrounding him than through ordinary conversation.

Although imposing, he repeatedly behaves protectively toward her. He also seems conscious of boundaries between the human and feline worlds, preventing Akari from crossing too far into places where humans do not belong.

His mystery is never completely reduced to a set of rules. Different versions of the story emphasize his nature differently, preserving him as part of Aqua's folklore rather than turning him into a conventional fantasy character with fully explained powers.

Cait Sith is associated with supernatural phenomena throughout Neo-Venezia. Places connected to him can appear or disappear, cats gather around him in enormous numbers, and Akari experiences journeys that do not obey ordinary geography or time.

He can intervene directly in supernatural encounters. During Akari's encounter with the ghostly woman connected to San Michele, Cait Sith's arrival drives the apparition away and allows Akari to return safely.

He also appears in different guises, including as the conductor of the mysterious Galactic Railroad-like train encountered by Akari.

Cait Sith anchors many of ARIA's supernatural Navigations. His appearances turn Neo-Venezia from a meticulously reconstructed city into a place where old stories, cats and unexplained spaces coexist with everyday life.

Akari's repeated encounters with him distinguish her from her friends. She sees him at the cat kingdom, during the Carnevale, around supernatural landmarks and during other experiences that may be impossible for most adults to perceive.

Akari eventually realizes that her meetings with Cait Sith correspond to Neo-Venezia's Seven Mysteries. As she approaches adulthood, Cait Sith communicates that their direct meetings must end and leaves her an aquamarine-like pendant as a farewell gift.

Akari Mizunashi is the human most strongly connected to Cait Sith. He repeatedly guides, watches and protects her during encounters with Aqua's supernatural side. Their meetings eventually end as Akari approaches adulthood, though she continues to regard him as part of Aqua's enduring presence.

Aria Pokoteng moves freely among Aqua's cats and repeatedly leads Akari toward places associated with Cait Sith.

Ai Aino accompanies Akari during some encounters with Neo-Venezia's feline mysteries and later becomes interested in Cait Sith through Akari's stories.
