Bora

Bora is stoic, honorable, courageous, and intensely devoted to protecting both Karin Sanctuary and his son. He speaks little but acts decisively when the sacred land is threatened.

His sense of honor extends even to enemies. After defeating Red Ribbon soldiers who invade his home, Bora buries them rather than leaving their bodies where they fell. The official Dragon Ball profile specifically highlights this act as part of his character.

Bora also respects strength used responsibly. He quickly recognizes Goku as a friend after the boy rescues Upa and freely shares the legend of Karin Tower with him.

Bora possesses extraordinary natural strength and durability. Conventional firearms are essentially useless against his body, and he can overpower groups of Red Ribbon soldiers at close range.

He is an experienced spear fighter and is physically strong enough to throw Goku a tremendous distance up Karin Tower years after their first meeting. His abilities come primarily from physical conditioning rather than the elaborate ki techniques used by the series' tournament fighters.

Bora and Upa encounter the Red Ribbon Army when Colonel Yellow arrives at Karin Sanctuary searching for the Four-Star Dragon Ball. Bora defeats Yellow's soldiers, but Yellow takes Upa hostage.

Goku arrives and rescues Upa, after which Bora entrusts Goku with the Four-Star Dragon Ball and tells him about the legendary training available atop Karin Tower.

The Red Ribbon Army then hires Tao Pai Pai to kill Goku. Bora attempts to protect Goku and is killed almost effortlessly by Tao's spear attack.

Goku later gathers all seven Dragon Balls specifically so Upa can wish Bora back to life. Shen Long grants the wish, restoring Bora to his son. Bora remains at Karin Sanctuary afterward and later assists Goku when he returns to climb the tower during the Piccolo Daimaou crisis.

Upa is Bora's son and the person he protects above all others. Upa admires his father's strength and courage and later makes Bora's restoration his Dragon Ball wish.

Goku rescues Upa and earns Bora's gratitude. Bora's death becomes one of the major reasons Goku continues his campaign against the Red Ribbon Army and searches for all seven Dragon Balls.

Tao Pai Pai is Bora's killer and the assassin sent to Karin Sanctuary by the Red Ribbon Army. Colonel Yellow threatens Bora's home and takes Upa hostage. Karin is the legendary hermit whose tower Bora's people protect.
