Atora Monteverdi

Atora is friendly and capable but discouraged by failure. Unlike Anzu, who repeatedly attempts the Prima examination despite unsuccessful results, Atora interprets her own failure as evidence that the examiner may simply never approve her.

That pessimism is rooted in wounded confidence rather than laziness. She continues working as an Undine and rowing the traghetto, but stops putting herself in the position where another examination can disappoint her.

Akari's approach to work challenges that thinking. Watching someone focus on what can be learned and enjoyed in the present helps Atora separate the possibility of failure from the value of trying.

Atora is a qualified Single, meaning she has progressed beyond Pair training but cannot yet take customers independently as a Prima.

Her traghetto work gives her extensive practical rowing experience. Traghetto crews ferry passengers across the Grand Canal, requiring several Undines to coordinate their strokes while handling a steady flow of customers.

Atora's difficulty is therefore not basic incompetence. She has reached Single rank and works professionally; the obstacle is meeting Orange Planet's demanding Prima standard and recovering the confidence necessary to attempt it again.

Atora appears during Akari's temporary work on a traghetto. The assignment brings Akari into contact with Singles outside her usual circle and shows that professional progression is not equally smooth for every Undine.

Atora contrasts with Anzu. Both have failed Prima examinations, but Anzu continues retaking hers while Atora has become convinced that another attempt is pointless.

After observing Akari's rowing and attitude, Atora changes her perspective. Rather than demanding certainty that she will succeed next time, she resolves to continue training and attempting the examination until she earns promotion.

Akari Mizunashi works alongside Atora on the traghetto and indirectly restores her willingness to pursue the Prima rank.

Anzu Yumeno is Atora's fellow Orange Planet Single and traghetto rower. Anzu's repeated willingness to retake the Prima examination contrasts with Atora's initial discouragement.
