Alma

Alma is withdrawn, resentful and deeply unhappy with the circumstances of her life. Historia remembers her spending much of her time reading rather than interacting with the household, and she provides virtually no maternal affection.

Her hostility toward Historia is especially severe. She associates the child with the loss of the life she wanted and treats her existence as a source of danger and regret. Even physical contact from her daughter provokes rejection rather than warmth.

Rod's account suggests Alma behaved differently during their relationship. He describes her as someone who understood his burdens, indicating that the bitterness visible during Historia's childhood developed alongside the collapse of Alma's position within the Reiss household.

Alma is an ordinary civilian with no supernatural powers or combat training.

She previously works as a servant on the Reiss estate, giving her access to the household of the true royal family. After returning to her parents' farm, she works as an escort in the city at night.

Her importance comes from her connection to Rod and Historia rather than any political authority of her own.

Alma's history is revealed through Historia's memories. While serving the Reiss household, she begins a relationship with Rod and becomes pregnant with his child.

Historia grows up with Alma on her grandparents' farm but receives virtually no affection from her mother. The young girl initially assumes this emotional distance is normal because she has little experience of other families.

After Wall Maria falls and Rod's legitimate family is slaughtered, he attempts to bring Alma and Historia into his household. Kenny Ackerman and Interior Police agents intervene because the existence of Rod's illegitimate family threatens the secrecy surrounding the monarchy.

Alma desperately denies any connection to Historia in an attempt to save herself, but Kenny kills her. Her final words express regret that Historia was ever born. Rod saves Historia by having her assume the name Krista Lenz and disappear into military service.

Historia Reiss is Alma's daughter. Alma rejects her throughout childhood and expresses regret over giving birth to her shortly before her death.

Rod Reiss is Alma's former employer and lover. Their affair results in Historia's birth.

Kenny Ackerman kills Alma when the Interior Police confront Rod's illegitimate family.
